Hi, I'm Tom. This is my webpage. Inside you will find stories, articles, and anecdotes about my experience of life.
Since becoming a student of Sri Chinmoy in 2003 I have ended up doing a lot of things I never thought I would ever do - like running marathons and ultra-marathons, stilt-walking in parades and festivals, conducting meditation classes, running a relay down the country's main highway, performing in public concerts, giving a speech to a school assembly and becoming a vegetarian.
Meditation is a major part of life on Sri Chinmoy's path. Some people misunderstand meditation and believe it is a form of escapism. On the contrary, meditation equips us to better cope with life here in the physical world - and at the same time it unveils aspects of reality which lie submerged under the overwhelming current of thoughts, ideas and sensations which make up our experience of ordinary life.
My personal sadhana (spiritual discipline) involves both regular meditation and at least 2 miles a day of running or other exercise. Physical fitness, believe it or not, is a really good way to make spiritual progress. I have so far completed 7 marathons and one ultra. These kinds of races are tough but character building.
Here is a picture of my spiritual teacher, Sri Chinmoy.
| Question: "Who is God?" |
| Sri Chinmoy: "God is your own highest, most illumined, most perfect part. You have two parts: one is higher, one is lower. Most of the time you stay in the lower part. When you become fully aware of your higher part and your lower part is totally transformed and unified with the Highest, at that time you are none other than God." |
